About BUONO

Ready to paste.

One line

BUONO is a free app that finds the cheapest copy of any book across Europe, new or used.

Short

BUONO is a free book price comparison app for iPhone and Android. Scan a book's barcode or search by title, and BUONO compares new and second-hand prices for that exact edition across bookshops and marketplaces in the UK, Italy, France, Germany and the Netherlands. It is made by The Bad Lemon in Udine, Italy.

Long

BUONO is a free app that finds the cheapest copy of any book across Europe. Readers scan a barcode in a shop or search a title, author or ISBN, and BUONO lists every price it can find for that exact edition, new and used together, from cheapest to dearest. It compares bookshops such as Waterstones, Bookshop.org, Mondadori Store, IBS.it and bol.com alongside second-hand sellers like momox, medimops and Vinted. Prices in other currencies are converted to euros so they compare fairly, and readers can save a book to get an alert when its price drops. Every book also has a public price page on getbuono.com, so anyone can check without installing the app. BUONO is made by The Bad Lemon, an independent studio in Udine, Italy.

The founder

Typhanie Cochrane is the founder of The Bad Lemon, a creative studio that designs and builds apps.

Typhanie made BUONO for readers who love books but not full price, so that anyone holding a book in a shop can see in a second whether the same edition is cheaper somewhere else, new or second-hand.

The studio also makes RFYL, Pin It and Voice It.

How BUONO stays honest

BUONO earns a small commission from some shops when a reader buys. Here is what that does and doesn't change.

Sorted by price, always

The list runs from cheapest to dearest. Shops can't pay to move up it, and shops that pay no commission are listed too.

The reader's price never changes

The commission comes out of the shop's side. Buying through BUONO costs exactly what buying direct does.

The exact edition

Matching is by ISBN, so the price shown is for the book in your hand, not a different cover or format.

Prices from the shops themselves

Prices come from each shop's official product feed or API and are refreshed daily. No account is ever needed.
